The Quiet Labor of Women

Give to Gain: Reflections on International Women’s Day 2026

Endless Dedication in the Shadows

It is only this year that I became truly interested in International Women’s Day. I’ve seen this celebration in past years, but I never really gave it much thought. I knew it was meant to celebrate women. It honors their strength, creativity and resilience, but I never really paused to reflect on it.

Writing from a life partner’s perspective…

Now that I am 32, and as I look back at the progress I’ve made, the challenges I’ve overcome, and the wisdom I’ve slowly gained, I realize how beautiful it is to be a woman.

Women are some of the strongest people I know. Strength is not measured by physicality. As humans in a woman’s form, society has often framed our role as serving rather than leading. Women were expected to behave in certain ways. But, isn’t the work she does in service that keeps life flowing? History quietly tells a different story.

I truly believe in the saying, “Behind every great man is a woman.”

Women have done so much invisible work throughout time. Quietly and consistently, women have been supporting, nurturing and building foundations that often go unnoticed.

It is the woman who carries it all. Managing, organizing, and tending to the home with care. She quietly puts everything together, holding the pieces in place so life flows smoothly, often without anyone noticing the effort it takes. Her work may go unseen, but it is the foundation upon which families and communities thrive.

Every small act from preparing a meal, listening to a child, supporting a partner and keeping the household running. It sows seeds of stability, love and growth. This is the quiet labor of a woman: patient, resilient, and endlessly giving, yet rarely acknowledged. And it is in these everyday acts of generosity that real progress begins.

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” carries a powerful message. It encourages generosity, collaboration, and support for the advancement of women and girls. Every little act of giving matters. Women don’t need much. Just a little rest, a break from the endless to-do list, a full eight hours of uninterrupted sleep, or simply a quiet moment to breathe.

It’s in these small gestures of support, these acts of giving, that we honor the quiet labor of a woman and help her continue to give so much to the world.

I believe women have always had more to give.

But the truth is, we cannot control everything. Even when the world understands these ideas, progress can move slowly. Sometimes painfully slow.

Still, I believe change begins with harmony and intention.
Every small act creates a ripple.

The small things we do at home for our families, the way we raise our children, the encouragement we give to other women, the kindness we show in our communities, these things may seem small, but they matter deeply.

Sometimes progress doesn’t come from grand movements alone. Sometimes it grows quietly in everyday life.

And maybe that is where real change begins.

Love,

Celeste
